Wrekin View and the Learning Community Trust are
Committed to keeping our pupils safe both in and outside school
We have staff who are trained to deal with safeguarding and child protection – our pupils and staff know who these people are, as the information is highly visible around the campus. In addition, all our staff receive regular training on safeguarding, and other high priority element of keeping your people safe.
All the trust’s academies have the ethos to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure, and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our academy is committed to ‘every child matters’, ‘keeping children safe in education’ and implements policies, practices and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical wellbeing of children, young people and staff.

What is safeguarding?
It might be difficult to accept, but every child can be hurt, put at risk of harm, or abused, regardless of their age, gender, religion, or ethnicity. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:
- protecting children from maltreatment
- preventing impairment of children’s mental health or development
- ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
In line with statutory guidance, Wrekin View is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Every employee (permanent or temporary) and governor of the school, as well as every volunteer who assists at the school, is aware that it is their legal duty to protect children from harm.
Our safeguarding team
Wrekin View’s designated safeguarding and child protection lead is:

In addition of the designated safeguarding lead, who is the person with ultimate responsibility for safeguarding, there is a team of deputy designated safeguarding leads to support and safeguard our pupils:

- Hannah Barnett – Day care manager
- Olly Cleevely – Computing Lead

Wrekin View's
Safety Squad
Our Safety Squad is a dedicated pupil council that is responsible for highlighting the importance of safety across the academy. The Safety Squad takes responsibility for meeting with Mr. Kilburn to discuss ways in which our pupils’ safety and wellbeing can be promoted.
As part of their responsibilities, the Safety Squad:
- lead assemblies on the subject of safeguarding
- run competitions for pupils to engage with around a key safeguarding message or themed week – such as Anti-Bullying Week
- monitor playground behaviour and conduct to ensure that pupils are using equipment safely
- update our Safety Squad display to match ongoing projects / themes
We are proud of our Safety Squad and appreciate the efforts of the squad in helping to ensure that Wrekin View remains a happy, safe, and nurturing place for our pupils to learn and grow.
