AN INSIGHT INTO
Staying safe online
Online Safety at Wrekin View
At Wrekin View Primary School, your child’s safety—both in the real world and online—is our top priority. The internet offers amazing opportunities for learning and connection, but it also comes with risks. That’s why online safety is a key part of our curriculum.
We work closely with pupils to help them:
- Spot and avoid online security threats
- Protect their personal information
- Build a positive online reputation
- Stay away from harmful or illegal content
Our goal is to give children the confidence and skills they need to make smart choices online. We also believe that parents play a vital role in this journey. Together, we can help children enjoy the benefits of technology while staying safe.
How you can help at home
- Talk regularly with your child about what they do online.
- Set clear boundaries and use parental controls where appropriate.
- Encourage them to come to you if something feels wrong or makes them uncomfortable.
Concerned about something?
If you’re worried about your child’s online activity or have seen something concerning:
- Speak to your child’s teacher or our Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately.
- You can also report harmful content or online abuse through CEOP or Childline.
In line with statutory guidance, within Keeping Children Safe in Education, every employee and governor of the school, as well as volunteers who assist at the school, are aware that it is their legal responsibility and duty to keep up to date with necessary changes to online safety to ensure that both safeguarding pupils and educating them within the field of online safety is paramount. A key example relating to how the school implements and carries out the necessary filtering and monitoring process:
- Filtering – Systems in place that block pupils from harmful content, denying access and preventing them from viewing specified content
- Monitoring – Tracking the on-screen activity of pupils

As an academy, we recognise the significance of online safety and ensure that our robust curriculum covers elements of its four key aspects: content, contact, conduct and commerce. Our approach to online safety ensures that every child from Wrekin Giants to year 6 understands the importance of being aware of the online world around them and both its benefits and drawbacks, enabling them to navigate the digital world around them safely.
Through implementation and delivery of our curriculum offer, we are proud to know that our pupils will be able to move onto their secondary school setting with an understanding of why being safe online is essential. Pupils will know how to keep themselves save by understanding the following:
- The rules and principles for keeping safe online.
- How to recognise risks, harmful content, and contact.
- How and why, we report content.
- How to critically consider online friendships.
- What to do in the event of danger online or when using technology.
- Why we sign an acceptable use agreement
