Hollie Taylor-Ward

Staff Governor

About

I am currently in my 14th year working in education and have dedicated my career to supporting children and young people with additional needs. My passion for education began at the age of 16 when I worked in a specialist setting, inspiring me to focus on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Throughout my career, I have worked in schools across Walsall and Dudley before securing my first SENDCo position in Wolverhampton. In this role, I established an internal provision for pupils with complex needs who were awaiting specialist placements, ensuring they received appropriate support and access to education during this transitional period.

Although I am new to formal governance, I have experience working alongside governors through my leadership roles, including delivering SEND-related training and participating in discussions with governors regarding the Local Authority regarding funding and provision for children with additional needs. I have also grown up appreciating the importance of school governance through family involvement in PTAs and governing bodies.

Within my current role, I am responsible for SEND and Inclusion, and I also serve as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), RPI Lead, and provide day-to-day pastoral support. With significant developments taking place nationally within SEND, I am excited to contribute to shaping positive outcomes for pupils during this evolving period in education.

As both an educator and a parent, I bring a balanced perspective to governance. My daughter attends a small school and is currently awaiting a dyslexia diagnosis. Supporting her through periods of anxiety has reinforced my understanding of the importance of early intervention, effective support systems, and strong home-school partnerships.

Outside of work, I value maintaining a healthy work-life balance. As a former boxer, I continue to train regularly through gym sessions and weightlifting. I am also passionate about music, having completed graded singing qualifications during my time singing in church, and I now perform as part of a local choir.

I have chosen to become a governor because I am keen to deepen my understanding of how governance influences school improvement and pupil outcomes. As a member of the senior leadership team, I believe I can offer a well-rounded perspective on school life while contributing positively to the strategic direction and continued success of the school.
